About Papercare

We built this because we were the ones suffering.

Papercare was not designed in a product workshop. It was built inside a working UK practice, by chartered certified accountants who knew exactly which parts of the job needed an accountant's judgement, and which parts were quietly eating the week.

See what we built by accountants. for accountants. no marketing team was involved.
Where it started

Five things that made us angry.

Not a market gap. Not a total addressable market. Five specific, daily, grinding irritations that every accountant in the country will recognise instantly.

that is the entire product roadmap.
The honest version

Nobody set out to start a software company.

By accountants

We knew where the week actually went.

Our team came from practice, not from technology. So we did not have to guess at the problem. We knew that the part of the job needing real judgement, the part a client is genuinely paying for, was being squeezed into the gaps between everything else.

The thinking was never the slow bit. Everything around the thinking was the slow bit.

The problem

An accountant's brain, spent on admin.

Chasing the same document twice. Working out which version is current. Re-checking a figure somebody already checked. Explaining a review point in an email, then explaining it again on a call. None of it needs a qualified accountant, and all of it is done by one.

Meanwhile the actual questions, the ones a client would want a person to think hard about, get whatever time is left at the end.

For accountants

So we built what we wanted to work in.

One place where the whole client year is visible, where every figure in the accounts links to the work behind it, and where the evidence and the argument live on the account they belong to. Data integrity by default, and nothing ever overwritten.

Not a filing system. A place where a file can be understood quickly, by whoever picks it up.

Now

An AI Accountant, not a document store.

That foundation is what makes the rest possible. An AI that reviews a file the way a senior would, answers questions from the client's own ledger, and drafts the email you were dreading. It suggests. You decide. It never invents a number.

The point was never to replace a spreadsheet. It was to give the judgement back its time.

The name is not an accident

Paper. And CARE.

Four letters, and what each of them has to mean before a feature is allowed to ship.

click a letter. we will wait.

The bit every About page has

Ours, at least, is short.

Mission

Give the hours back.

To empower UK chartered certified accountants by understanding their actual pain points with precision, and removing them. Not adding features. Removing pain. Greater efficiency, less time, less tedium, and a job that is a bit more rewarding at the end of it.

Vision

Smarter, not longer.

We know what a fellow accountant actually goes through in a busy season, because we went through it. So we built somewhere that lets accountants work smarter and faster, rather than simply later into the evening.

Purpose

No two practices are alike.

Accuracy and speed pull against each other, and no two firms resolve that the same way. Give accountants the right support and stop making them prove the obvious, and they produce remarkable work. That is the whole bet.

Where we draw the line

Six things we will not do.

Most companies tell you what they promise. In accountancy, what somebody refuses to do tells you far more.

We will not invent a number.

If the AI does not know, it says so. A confident fabrication is worse than a blank, because you might believe it.

We will not overwrite your data.

Reclassify, adjust and journal it however you like. The original is still there, exactly as it arrived.

We will not post anything for you.

The AI suggests, you decide. Nothing hits the ledger because a machine felt confident about it.

We will not stop your work at zero.

Run out of credits and the working papers keep working. The AI pauses, your file does not.

We will not lock you in.

Import from any bookkeeping system, export whenever you want. Your data is yours, and it leaves when you do.

We will not call it "the software".

A small thing, and we mean it. It is your AI Accountant. Language shapes what you expect from a thing.

Come and argue with us.

We would genuinely rather hear what is wrong with it than what is nice about it. Book thirty minutes, bring a real file, and tell us where it breaks.
